Elephant Baby Quilt
38” x 47.5” Quilt blocks finished 9.5”
Difficulty level: Easy
2016
This quilt is
incredibly easy and comes together quickly.
The following instructions are provided in a 4x5 layout using 20 blocks,
but could be made larger or smaller by simply increasing or decreasing the
number of blocks.
What you need:
Fat Quarters: Variety of yellow and light gray fabric for
the blocks. The yellow fabric will also
be used for the elephant ears.
1 yd light cream or
white fabric
1/3 yd dark gray fabric for elephant
Backing: 3 1/8 yd
and Binding: 3/8 yd
What you do:
Cut 8 – 10” blocks light cream/white fabric
Cut 6 – 10” blocks yellow fabric
Cut 6 – 10” blocks light gray fabric
Prepare 8 elephant appliques using the dark gray fabric to be
centered on the cream/white blocks.
Prepare 8 elephant ears from the yellow fabric to be appliqued onto the
elephant. There are several well written online sites that offer instructions
for applique, so I will not go into specifics for this technique. I prefer the method using iron-on fusible and
securing with a satin stitch around the applique.
4 x5 layout, or feel free to create your own! Sew blocks into rows and join rows
together. Use 1/4” seam allowance.
