A Flower for Plain Jane

A few weeks ago I posted pictures of a challenge fabric given to our Deforest Quilt Guild and much to my delight I'm nearly finished with it! (only needs binding!).  Last April I purchased Lisa Calle's Divide and Design DVD and her quilter's groove ruler 16.  I used her designs from her "Not So Plain Jane" to complete this quilt.  In the center I made a fabric flower which I learned from "The Nifty Stitcher" at rhianontaylor.blogspot.com

The groove pro line 16 was designed by Lisa Calle and is available from her website www.stonehousequilts.com.  It is really pretty slick, in the fact your hopping foot sews and slides against the inner cut out groove.  It comes in a variety of sizes to stitch from 1", 1/2", 1/4", 1/8" to a 1/16th" and the rulers are available as either straight or curved.  So with all the sizes available...I ask myself "what the hell was I thinking?!!" a 1/16th inch!!! I felt like my hopping foot would sew against one side of the ruler and I would no more take one stitch and would be sewing against the other side....that is some TINY spacing, of course there's no way I would have been able to use a straight edge ruler and keep the spacing betw the stitched lines so accurate, and once I got the rhythm down in moving the ruler and stitching it went faster than I thought...still I may find myself investing in the 1/8" and I would like to try the curved version.
